Outgoing Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Divine Otoo Agorhom, has attributed some of the challenges he faced during his tenure to inadequate support from key party elders.
Mr Agorhom, who served as Regional Chairman from 2018, said the lack of backing from influential members of the party made it difficult for him to effectively manage the regional administration.
Speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the NPP Greater Accra regional elections, he said he did not receive the level of support required to fully execute his responsibilities.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t get the support of the elders of the party. That made my administration quite a difficult one,” he said.
Mr Agorhom, who is of Dangbe heritage, also highlighted the importance of the indigenous Ga-Adangbe base to the NPP’s organisation and mobilisation efforts in the region.
He said the limited support from some key party figures affected his ability to effectively manage the affairs of the region.
“This is a region made up of, you know, the Ga-Adangbes. I happen to be a Dangbe. The kind of support I needed to get from the key members of the party in the region was not forthcoming, so to say. That made the whole work quite difficult for me,” he added.
His comments come as the NPP seeks to reorganise and strengthen its structures in Greater Accra following a significant decline in the party’s parliamentary representation.
The NPP, which won 21 parliamentary seats in the region in the 2016 general elections, was reduced to five seats in the 2024 elections.
