New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser hopeful, Abanga Yakubu Fuseini, says the party’s youth wing must work tirelessly to secure victory for its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general elections.
According to Mr Fuseini, the NPP’s quest to return to power requires hard work, effective mobilisation and a strong connection with the youth, particularly the Generation Z demographic.
“If we disappoint Bawumia in 2028, we have disappointed Ghanaians,” he said.
Speaking in an interview onAsempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Fuseini said his commitment to the NPP dates back to his days as a student at the University of Ghana, where he actively participated in party activities.
He disclosed that his involvement in party politics affected his studies to the extent that he had to resit several courses before completing his university education.
“I wanted power and if you want power, you have to work hard for it. Even as a student, I was working for the party. It even affected my studies. I wrote about eight resits before graduating from the University of Ghana,” he said.
Mr Fuseini said his numerous attempts at leadership positions within the NPP have helped prepare him for the National Youth Organiser position.
He recounted contesting for the TESCON presidency, later vying for the National Youth Organiser position where he emerged second, and subsequently contesting the parliamentary primaries in his constituency.
Although he was unsuccessful in those contests, Mr Fuseini said the experiences demonstrate his longstanding commitment to the party.
“All these have prepared me for what is ahead. All these contests I have lost show the love I have for the party and my desire to hold something that belongs to the party,” he stated.
He said his ambition is not limited to serving the party’s youth wing in Accra but to lead and mobilise young people across the country.
“I won’t be a youth organiser for just Accra. I will be a youth organiser for all,” he said.
Mr Fuseini also dismissed suggestions that he would immediately shift his focus to contesting a parliamentary seat should he lose the National Youth Organiser race.
“The national party needs me right now, so it’s not like when I lose I will go back to want to contest as MP. We are targeting the national youth wing,” he said.
He appealed to NPP delegates, particularly members of the youth wing, to support his bid, arguing that his leadership would strengthen the party’s efforts to mobilise young people behind Dr Bawumia.
He said he has already toured various parts of the country and is confident of securing a decisive victory in the contest.
“I have toured the entire country. I want the gap between my opponents to be wide. We need someone who can organise and mobilise the youth,” he stated.
Mr Fuseini described himself as a politician who understands the aspirations and communication styles of young Ghanaians, particularly Generation Z.
“I am an assorted politician. I resonate with the youth, and the youth in Ghana know my vibe. I am the only person who understands Gen Z,” he said.
He added that he believes he represents the NPP’s strongest option for the National Youth Organiser position as the party seeks to win back power in 2028.
“I will be the NPP’s best bet for the National Youth Organiser position to help the party win power in 2028,” he stated.
Mr Fuseini maintained that the youth wing would play a crucial role in the NPP’s efforts to secure victory in the next general election and urged party members to unite behind the broader objective of returning the party to government.
