Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, in dismissing claims of attempts by the Akufo-Addo-led government to rename the University of Ghana after Joseph Boakye Danquah, one of the founding fathers of Ghana, says he will not be surprised about such a move.

To Hon Hadzide, he will be quite excited that the Governing Council will make that consideration though he is not aware that at this moment that consideration is being laid.

Speaking on Accra-based Starr FM, Hon Hadzide said “I will not be surprised, I’ve done some reading and I will actually be excited that such doyen not only of African politics, not only Ghanaian politics, but indeed international politics, a true blaze as far as the amplification of the African voice is concerned, is recognised.”

The Deputy Minister’s comment follows reports that the government may soon rename the University of Ghana as J.B. Danquah University of Ghana following the renaming of some tertiary institutions in the country with the latest proposal coming from the Governing Council of the University of Energy and Natural Resources to rename the school after Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia, Prime Minister of the Government of the 2nd Republic.
