Former Ghana winger, Laryea Kingston has expressed his eagerness to coach the Black Stars if given the opportunity.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is searching for a new head coach for the national team following the dismissal of Chris Hughton. A dedicated five-member committee has been established to spearhead this quest.
The decision to part ways with Hughton came in the wake of the Black Stars’ disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Kingston, who boasts 42 caps and six goals for the national team is optimistic about his capability to lead the team and restore it to its former glory.
The 43-year-old who now serves as the assistant coach for the Black Starlets confidently emphasized his qualifications, citing his experience and understanding of the requirements for success at the international level.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Laryea Kingston said “I know the level at which I am now.”
Should Kingston be appointed, he would join the ranks of former players like Charles Kwablan Akonnor and James Kwasi Appiah, who have previously held coaching positions with the national team.
The GFA has mandated the five-member committee to recommend a coach with at least 15 years of coaching experience.
In addition to Kingston, other contenders for the vacant coaching role include Maxwell Konadu and Michael Osei, who have also submitted their applications for consideration.
