Hundreds of people from across the Ashanti Region and beyond thronged the Manhyia Palace on Sunday to celebrate the Akwasidae Festival with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the newly enstooled Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II.
The colourful ceremony marked another significant cultural and historic moment in the Asante Kingdom, as the palace came alive with rich displays of tradition, customs, and heritage that characterize the revered Akwasidae Festival.

This year’s celebration is particularly significant, as it is the maiden Akwasidae Festival following the announcement and enstoolment of Nana Yaa Akyaa II as the new Asantehemaa, succeeding the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including the Ashanti Regional Minister, current and former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executives, government officials, traditional leaders, and other distinguished guests.

Members of the Asanteman Council, adorned in their traditional regalia, were present to pay homage to the Asantehene and grace the occasion.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was seated whiles the new Asantehemaa was also seated at her palace to receive homages
The festival featured vibrant cultural performances, traditional drumming and dancing, and the display of rich Asante customs, with hundreds of patrons witnessing the enduring heritage and unity of the Asante Kingdom.
