The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has challenged the findings of the Auditor General’s department which claimed that the power distribution outfit paid over 23 million to ghost contractors.
According to the utility service provider, the cheques showing it paid monies to some service providers for no work done had no numbers on them.

Public Relations Officer of EGC, William Boateng, revealed this on Adom FM’s anti-corruption segment, Fabewoso on its morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Wednesday.
The ECG has been implicated in the 2016 Auditor General’s report for serious financial irregularities.
The report says the utility service provider paid over GH₵23 million to 13 non-existent contractors on December 31, 2015.

The audit report also blamed heads of finance department of ECG for not controlling the disbursement of funds to ensure that transactions were properly authenticated before payments were made.
But in a rebuttal, Director of Finance at ECG, Frank Anokwafo, expressed shock at the findings of the Auditor General.
He revealed that, neither the Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo nor his staff came to them for any documents before putting together the report.

“We have looked at the cheques being talked about but they have no cheque numbers as all such cheques must have so we have doubts about the Auditor General’s claims”, he added.
Mr. Frank Anokwafo said they are ready to reconcile issues if the Auditor General’s Department provides them with further evidence.
