Three persons who broke jail from the Awutu Breku Police cell have been rearrested on Wednesday night.

The Awutu Breku District Police Commander ASP Johnson Hessey who disclosed this to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said the three suspects had been kept in the police cell for various offenses in the Awutu Breku township.

He noted that the suspects were connected to stealing, assault and fraud offenses in the town.

The suspects are 26-year-old Ebenezer Larbie, who is in custody for defrauding a woman of an amount of 1.2 million cedis; Isaac Andoh, a 28-year-old man was charged for stealing boxes of floor tiles and 21-year-old Joseph Mbala for assaulting a man into coma.

ASP Johnson Hessey said they overpowered police officers who were on duty at the time and escaped through the ceiling of the prison cell.

“The ceiling of the cell is made from plywood so one stood on the shoulder of the other and then they used force to break the ceiling and they managed to pass through the ceiling before the man on duty spotted them,” ASP Hesse said.

He added that the police officer raised an alarm, other officers rushed in and the suspects were re-arrested.

Police Commander ASP Johnson Hessey said the suspects have been taken to court and charged with escaping from lawful custody.

“They will be transferred to another cell in another district and kept there until a decision is made on them by the court” he stated.

All other inmates, ASP Johnson Hessey said have been removed and the cell closed until the ceiling is repaired.
