Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has predicted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risk losing elections 2020 if it fails to deal with the widespread lawlessness caused by pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante groups.

According to him, he supports President Akufo-Addo’s  call on the police to crack the whip on political party vigilante groups affiliated to the NPP.

Kennedy Agyapong believes freedom is more important to Ghanaians therefore urged President Akufo-Addo to ensure that the laws work without regard for partisan considerations.

“Nana Akufo Addo has condemned this act and so who am I to support this act of lawlessness by these youth. I will condemn it any day. In fact, if this act of lawlessness happened in my town, I would have locked all these boys” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong’s comment comes in the wake of disturbances in Karaga and Sissala West, perpetrated by alleged NPP supporters, adding to 18 separate attacks since the party came into office.

The incident at Karaga involved an attack on a police station, with protesting members freeing colleagues in custody, whilst the Sissala West incident involved an attack on the District Chief Executive.

President Akufo-Addo has since reiterated his position that the laws of the country will crack the whip on political party vigilante groups.

Following such comments from the president, many have suggested that the government is only talking with little or no action when it comes to dealing with acts of vigilantism involving its supporters.

But the outspoken MP speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Tuesday refuted these assertions, and retorted that the NPP did not condone such actions.

According to him, he once supported members of the Delta Force because the NPP promised to give them jobs if they come to power but won’t support other groups who have not sought their consent.

“I first supported Delta Force members because we had promised them and so there was the need for them to be angry but these guys are just useless and must be dealt with. I won’t support their action” he stated.

Kennedy Agyapong indicated that the NDC lost the 2016 election because they refused to condemn their vigilante groups when the NDC was in power.

Their silence as far as vigilantism is concerned, Kennedy Agyapong said is enough reason to cause the grassroot to vote against the party.

“Freedom is more important than anything else and I can state that the NDC lost the election because they refused to condemn these attacks and lawlessness but we won’t remain silence else the grassroots will vote against us in 2020” he warned.
