Thirty-two-year-old Kwame Asirifi has ended his life after drinking two bottles of locally distilled gin, ‘Akpeteshie’ at Asuakoso, a suburb of Akyem Hemang in the Eastern Region.
The Assemblyman of the area, Johnson Appiah, who disclosed this to Adom News said the deceased had been promised GH¢30 by a colleague if he was able to drink two bottles of the gin, a challenge he put himself up for.

However, no sooner did he finish the second bottle than did he collapse and was gasping for breath.

Onlookers thought he was feigning his collapse until they realized the situation was becoming more serious than they thought, prompting the attention of the assemblyman who directed his wife to give him some food.

His situation appeared to be worsening so was rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital where he died shortly on admission.

The matter, he said has been reported to the police and investigations have commenced into the matter to establish the actual cause of death.
Meanwhile, the two persons reported to have dared him to drink the bottles of gin in return for the paltry amount are nowhere to be found.
