A 51-year-old farmer at Assin Nyarme Bebu in the Assin South District of the Central Region, has committed suicide by hanging after allegedly taking an overdose of the indigenous Ghanaian gin popularly known as Akpeteshie.

According to the Assin South District Police Commander, ASP Okyere Andam, the deceased. Anthony Acquah, committed the crime with a sponge in his bedroom where a bottle of alcohol was found beside him.

ASP Okyere Andam told Adom News’ Alfred Amoh that relatives of the deceased said the deceased was in the habit of threatening to commit suicide whenever he got drunk.

The incident, according to ASP Okyere Andam, happened on the evening Monday, January 29.
He said when the police got to the scene, Anthony was lying in a pool of blood, dead.

ASP Okyere Andam said the body had been sent to the hospital for preservation and autopsy while investigations continue.
He therefore urged Ghanaians to report persons who have shown the tendencies of committing suicide to the nearest police station for immediate action.
