Residents of Akyem Etwereso in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region are raising alarm over escalating violence in the community, with women and children said to be living in fear amid reports of gunfire and intimidation.

The affected residents, particularly women, are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to deploy additional security personnel to the area, accusing suspected hooligans of creating a climate of fear and insecurity.

According to them, the situation has disrupted daily life, with many residents afraid to go about their normal activities due to the threat of violence.

They link the unrest to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute involving the Odau Hene and the Okyenhene, alleging that individuals connected to the tensions have been terrorising the community.

The women say the situation has become unbearable, especially for schoolchildren and traders, who now feel unsafe moving within the area.

The principal elder of the Odau Aduana No. 1 family, Osenase Kwabena Aniagyei, has also appealed for immediate intervention, describing the situation as deeply worrying.

He noted that the activities of the suspected hooligans are not only threatening lives but also undermining peace and stability in the community.

Residents are therefore urging the police and other security agencies to act swiftly to restore calm and protect lives and property in Akyem Etwereso.
