Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture John Dumelo says government is preparing for large-scale dry season tomato farming from December to June next year to prevent a future shortage of the produce.
In a social media post, the deputy minister said land for the exercise has been cleared in the northern part of Ghana. Nursing and transplanting are expected to begin in October.
He also said solar-powered boreholes and irrigation inputs have been provided to support farmers taking up dry season farming.
He added that the price of tomatoes is expected to see a sharp decline in the coming weeks as farmers begin the current harvest.
