The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and Ulster University, is working to integrate fire safety education into Ghana’s basic school curriculum.
The initiative is aimed at equipping children with practical knowledge on fire prevention, safe behaviour and the appropriate actions to take during emergencies from an early age.

According to the GNFS, the programme is being pursued under the leadership of the Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, as part of efforts to strengthen fire safety awareness among children.
The Service said the programme was initially developed by the GNFS and Ulster University and has since been refined through engagements with education and fire safety experts.

The refined programme has been presented to the Chief Fire Officer for consideration as discussions continue towards its possible integration into the basic school curriculum.

The initiative is expected to give pupils age-appropriate knowledge and practical skills that could help them prevent fires and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
The collaboration among the GNFS, GES, NaCCA and Ulster University forms part of broader efforts to promote a culture of fire safety and prevention among young people.
