The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has paid GH¢38,656 to cover the full cost of surgery for one of its sanitation workers who was injured in an accident while on duty.

The worker, Cynthia Yeboah, was involved in an accident on September 16, 2026, and was subsequently admitted to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

On Monday, October 5, AMA Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey led a delegation from the Assembly to visit Ms Yeboah at the hospital, where he presented the full amount required for her surgery.

The Mayor also assured her of the Assembly’s continued support throughout her treatment and recovery, stressing that staff welfare remained a priority for the current management.

“The old AMA isn’t the new AMA. The new AMA pays for and takes care of its people,” Mayor Allotey said during the visit.

He said the Assembly was pleased to intervene at a critical point in Ms Yeboah’s treatment and expressed hope that the surgery would be successful and help her regain her health.

Mayor Allotey further assured the injured worker that management would return to check on her after the surgery and wished her a speedy recovery.

The intervention is part of the Assembly’s efforts to strengthen staff welfare and provide support to employees who encounter emergencies while carrying out their duties.

Ms Yeboah and her family expressed appreciation to the Mayor and AMA management for taking responsibility for the cost of her medical treatment and supporting her recovery.
