The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL) have inspected fire hydrants around Makola Market and parts of the High Street in Accra to strengthen emergency response to fire outbreaks.
The exercise was led by the Greater Accra Regional Fire Command, under the leadership of ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, in collaboration with the Inspection Unit of Ghana Water Limited.
The inspection focused on assessing the availability and operational readiness of fire hydrants in the densely populated commercial areas.
The GNFS said the exercise forms part of efforts to ensure that firefighting infrastructure is functional and readily available to support rapid response during emergencies.
Makola Market and its surrounding areas are major commercial centres with high human and business activity, making effective fire preparedness critical to protecting lives and property.
The collaboration between the two institutions is expected to improve coordination and enhance the capacity of emergency responders to tackle fire incidents in the area.
The GNFS and GWL reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening public safety and ensuring effective firefighting response across the capital.
