The Ghana Olympic Committee will send a 40-member contingent, made up of athletes, coaches and officials, to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The announcement was made by Richard Akpokavie during Saturday’s Annual General Meeting in Accra.
According to Akpokavie, the delegation will include athletes, coaches, medical personnel, safeguarding officers and officials led by the Chef de Mission.
“The plan is to send 40 athletes, coaches, medical officers, safeguarding officers and of course, led by the Chef de Mission for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,” he stated.
The figure marks a significant reduction compared to Ghana’s participation at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where the country was represented by a 100-member team comprising 60 men and 40 women.
The reduction follows a major restructuring of the Games by the Commonwealth Games Federation, which in October 2024 cut the sporting programme from 19 disciplines to 10.
Several sports, including cricket, field hockey, rugby sevens, squash and wrestling, were removed as part of emergency cost-saving measures after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew from hosting the event because of escalating expenses.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, bringing together athletes from Commonwealth nations and territories across the world.
