Ghanaian boxer Amadu Mohammed has secured a bronze medal in the men’s 55kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after falling in the semi-finals in Glasgow on Friday, July 31.
The reigning African Games champion saw his hopes of reaching the gold medal contest ended by Australia’s Dixon Jye, who claimed a 4-1 split decision victory after an entertaining three-round contest.
Amadu made an impressive start, controlling the opening round with sharp combinations and effective movement.
His strong display earned him a clean sweep from the judges, with all five scoring the round 10-9 in favour of the Ghanaian.
However, Jye responded in the second round with a more aggressive approach, turning the contest in his favour.
Four of the five judges awarded the round to the Australian, while only one maintained Amadu’s advantage.
The Australian carried his momentum into the decisive third round, dictating the pace despite a determined late rally from Amadu, who landed several clean punches in the closing exchanges.
Nevertheless, all five judges scored the final round for Jye, confirming his place in the gold medal bout.
Despite the defeat, Amadu leaves the tournament with a bronze medal, as Commonwealth Games boxing regulations award bronze to both losing semi-finalists.
The podium finish marks Ghana’s second medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, following Zinabu Issah’s silver medal in the women’s F57 shot put, and provides another boost to Team Ghana’s medal tally as the competition approaches its conclusion.
