Ghanaians living in Bronx, a suburb in New York in the United States of America will hold a candle light vigil for the hero soldier who died while rescuing people from a deadly fire in the area.
Private Emmanuel Mensah died trying to rescue people from his burning apartment building this week in the Bronx, New York, in the city’s deadliest fire in more than 25 years, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
He went off to serve in the Army National Guard, but it was back home where he made the ultimate sacrifice.
According to the late Mensah’s father, he went back into the building twice to rescue neighbors. But he did not make it out alive.
Apart from the soldier, five others including a family of three Solomon Donkor, 49, his 17-old-daughter, Hannah Adoma Donkor and his 12-year-old son William Donkor were all killed.
As custom demands, the National Ghana Parade Council in Bronx have set Thursday January 4,2018 for the vigil.
President of the Association, Catherine Cudjo in an interview on Adom News said they have sought the necessary permission for the vigil.
She noted that, the families of the deceased have given them the green light to mourn with them.
Catherine Cudjo expressed her deepest condolence to the families and called on all Ghanaians to join them mourn the departed souls.
