The Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, has urged Ghanaians to remain firmly behind the Black Stars, describing the team’s performance against Croatia in the Unity Cup tournament in the United States as encouraging despite the defeat.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Dr. Wuaku said the result should not be seen as a setback but rather as a sign that the national team is steadily regaining its strength and confidence.

According to him, the Black Stars displayed determination, discipline, and resilience throughout the game — qualities he believes will position the team for greater success in future competitions.

“This is not a loss. For me, it is a win because the players showed character, commitment, and the desire to fight for the nation. Football is about progress, and what we witnessed today is a team that is improving. The future is very bright,” he said.

Dr. Wuaku appealed to football fans across the country to continue supporting the players and the technical team instead of criticizing them after every result.

“The Black Stars need the encouragement of every Ghanaian. Success in football is built on confidence, unity, and consistent support. I am confident that with the backing of the nation, the victories will come,” he stated.

The Ghana Sports Fund Administrator also reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting sports development in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of creating a sustainable financing mechanism to transform sports in Ghana.

He said the establishment of the Ghana Sports Fund marks a significant step in addressing the long-standing funding challenges facing sports and pledged that the institution would work tirelessly to ensure the President’s vision becomes a reality.

“The Ghana Sports Fund was established to provide sustainable support for sports development, and we remain fully committed to delivering on that mandate. We will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for sports development is fully realised for the benefit of every athlete and every sporting discipline in Ghana,” Dr. Wuaku stressed.

He expressed optimism that with improved funding, stronger institutional support, and the continued commitment of athletes, Ghana’s sporting future remains promising.

Dr. Wuaku made the remarks in the United States after Ghana’s clash with Croatia, stressing that although the scoreline did not favour the Black Stars, their performance offered renewed hope for brighter days ahead.
