The Energy Ministry has stated emphatically that the country has not returned to the era of power outages popularly referred to as dumsor.
Spokesperson for the Ministry, Michael Opam who disclosed this said the power outages which was experienced in parts of the country were caused by rainstorms that hit parts of the country.
“Dumsor has not returned. What we are experiencing now is as a result of the recent downpour in parts of the country. We have taken note of series of outages in some areas within our distribution system, but we wish to state as a matter of fact that it is not load shedding,” he said on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’.
The power crisis that had ravaged parts of the country over the last five years is said to have reared it’s ugly head once again following reports of widespread power outages.
This compelled the Ministry of Energy on two occasions to give assurances and deadlines for the normalisation of the power situation.
The Minister, Boakye Agyarko, had said the unstable power situation in the country would return to some level of normalcy from Saturday, February 25, as the recent unplanned power cuts experienced in various parts of Accra and other parts of the country were as a result of technical works on some of the country’s power plants.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Tuesday, Mr Opam indicated that a supply in shortfall of 650MW due to the maintenance of power plants in the Western Region have resulted in the intermittent and unplanned power cuts in parts of the country.
He further gave assurances that power supply would normalise very soon.
