The Ghana@60 organising committee has dismissed rumours that the committee will be funding the International Gospel Concert which would feature international gospel artiste, Don Moen.
The Head of the media Sub Committee of the Ghana 60 years on Anniversary Celebration, Jefferson Sackey told Adomonline.com that the international artiste is being invited to perform in Ghana on a private initiative.
“This is actually a private initiative. A group of churches contacted us that they are in the process of bringing in Don Moen and we thought that it is a laudable idea to have him in the country especially as we are celebrating 60 years of existence as a nation…” he said.
Rumours were rife on social media that the planning committee was funding the invitation of the American gospel artiste to perform at the nation’s 60th Anniversary celebrations. It continued that government was going to spend GH500,000 or 5 billion old cedis of the taxpayers money to bring him down to Ghana.
These rumours, Jefferson said were untrue adding that the committee would not be ‘paying a pesewa’ for the concert which would be held at the Independence Square on 7th March, 2017.
“They have already paid him and we just decided to make the independence square available to them, it comes at no cost to the planning committee…his show is just 1% out of the 100% happening throughout the year as part of the celebration…,” he said further.
Asked how much the private person is paying to bring down to Ghana, Jefferson said the planning committee has not bothered to go into the dealings of the private persons who are solely responsible for the show.
“The national planning committee has not contributed a pesewa to the bringing down of Don Moen, and don’t know how much is being paid to bring him down by the private persons, our focus for this anniversary is to organize it in a way that it falls in line with the theme of mobilising for Ghana’s future,” Jefferson added.
Don Moen, he said would be performing at the Perez Dome before appearing at the Independence Square.
Local musicians like Joe Mettle, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Francis Amo, Josh Laryea, a young Kumasi-based artiste, Zack and several others, he added, would be performing on the night as well.
The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), according to Jefferson would also be organizing a three-day music concert to celebrate the contribution of music to the development of Ghana.
The musicians union would be soliciting support from corporate Ghana to sponsor this initiative, he added.
