Parliament has approved the nomination of Minister-designate for Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba by a majority decision.

This was after the Minority rejected her nomination following her refusal to apologize to former President John Mahama over alleged unsavory comments she was said to have made against him during the 2016 electioneering campaign.

On many of the campaign platforms, the NPP Women’s Organiser minced no words in calling Mr Mahama a “wicked” and “evil person” who did not have the people of the North at heart.

When she was asked by the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrissu whether she has regretted making those comments, Madam Djaba stood by them.

The Minority said she not doing her National Service is a major setback for her approval to serve in a public office.

Based on this backdrop, the Minority refused to vote on the floor of the House after they failed to reach a consensus for her approval.

Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu explained that the approval of the appointee who failed to enroll in the National Service Scheme (NSS) would amount to an illegality.

But after voting, Madam Otiko Djaba secured more than the 60 percent votes needed for her to be approved by Parliament.

Out of the 275 Parliament, 152 voted for her approval but the Minority who were present in Parliament refused to exercise their franchise.

Meanwhile, Madam Otiko together with the other nominees who were approved are currently at the Flagstaff House waiting to be sworn-in by President  Nana Akufo-Addo.
