The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ideal Financial Holdings, Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani, has been elected the Council of State representative of the Greater Accra Region.

Dr. Dzani polled 20 votes followed by Nene Kanor Attiapah with 12 votes. The remaining candidates had zero votes.

Following his victory, Dr. Dzani was accused of bribing the delegates by two of his fellow contestants.

One of the aggrieved contestants, Alberta Sitsofe Adukor-Asola, intimated her loss was “because I didn’t give money, unfortunately. It is high time this kind of politicking, we stop it in this country.”

The Greater Accra Region poll was an area of interest given that the former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah, was scheduled to take part in the election, but later withdrew at the last minute citing personal reasons.

The NDC executives of the Ningo-Prampram constituency had prior to his withdrawal expressed their disappointment with the former MP’s decision, saying it would send wrong signals to the grassroots members of the party, since they would think that t he has defected to the governing New Patriotic Party.

A total of 113 candidates between the ages of 23 and 84, are contesting in the election, which will take place in all regional capitals across the country.
