Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has jabbed former Hearts of Oak player, Amankwah Mireku insisting he expects highly respected people to criticize him and not him.

Following Ghana’s elimination at the recently ended AFCON tournament in Gabon, the Black stars players have received a quantum of criticism by a section of Ghanaians and the media.

The former midfielder has criticized the current generation of the Black Stars players stating most of them lack stamina for the game.

Amankwah in an interview Accra based Happy FM urged the Ghana Football Association to strip Gyan of the captaincy as according to him, Dede Ayew has over the years proven he was born to be a leader and have the qualities of leadership insisting Gyan is no more the player we knew and has faded out.

However, Gyan believes legends can criticize him and not a mere Amankwah Mireku.

“Instead of him to talk about how we can win the cup, he is talking about who should captain the team because you have been a captain before and so what?” Gyan fumed.

“What has he done for the country? I have played hundred and one games for the country and if it shouldn’t have been injuries I could have played more matches for the country”.

“If you captained Hearts of Oak that is good and I don’t want to disrespect the club he captained but he has faded out and this is my time. When was the last time you heard me talking about players’ performance?” Gyan asked.

“I always try to advise and protect everybody and as former captain you shouldn’t be talking about who should captain the team. Does he know what I have been doing for the team and the country? I always try to serve the country immediately I recover from injuries because we are trying to do our best for the team to stay strong always to help win the trophy”.

“At this moment, I don’t expect him to be talking about captaincy. What are his bases for saying those things? I expect him to support the team but if he tries to disrespect me, I will also disrespect him also.” He added.
