Two taxi drivers and their friend are in the grips of the Wenchi Divisional Police Command for allegedly robbing a gold dealer at gunpoint.

The victim, Sumaila Ibrahim was said to have boarded the vehicle of one of the suspects, 27-year-old Yaw Isaac   connived with his colleagues, Asante Maxwell, 32 and Buster to commit the crime.

 Wenchi Divisional Police Commander, ACP Peter Gyimah in an interview with Adom News said the victim boarded Yaw Isaac’s taxi from Wenchi to Banda Nkwanta a mining community in the Boile – Bamboi District of the Northern Region.

But upon reaching Subinso II and Branam on the Wenchi – Wa Highway, the driver who knew the victim was carrying gold he stopped the car and his accomplices holding a gun threatened to kill Sumaila if he does not handover his goods and GH¢50,000.

Minutes after the operation had ended, the driver together with the gold dealer drove to the police station to lodge a complaint.

ACP Gyimah said it was during interrogation that the driver, Yaw Isaac confessed to have staged the armed robbery.

“He led us to the house of his friend Maxwell Asante but immediately he saw us, he bolted and we have mounted a manhunt for him” he added.

The Wenchi Divisional Police Commander revealed after a thorough search in his room, they were only able to retrieve GH¢43,000 from his room.

Maxwell, ACP Gyimah noted was later arrested but Buster is still at large.
