The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to decide the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz after reviewing his technical reports from the team’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Queiroz, 73, was appointed on a short-term contract weeks before the tournament in North America, replacing Otto Addo as head coach.
Despite limited preparation time, the experienced Portuguese coach guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since the Black Stars’ historic quarterfinal appearance in 2010.
However, uncertainty has surrounded his future following Ghana’s elimination from the competition, with some supporters calling for his departure while President John Dramani Mahama has publicly backed the retention of the veteran coach.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo said a final decision on Queiroz’s future would be made after the association reviews the technical reports submitted after the tournament.
“Carlos Queiroz’s future will be decided after the GFA reviews his reports,” he said.
The GFA Executive Council is expected to meet on Friday, July 31, to assess the reports before determining whether Queiroz will continue as Black Stars coach.
Ghana started its World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before recording a goalless draw against England in the second group game.
A 2-1 defeat to Croatia in the final group match saw the Black Stars finish third in their group, but they advanced to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.
Their World Cup journey ended after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout stage.
With the tournament concluded, attention has now shifted to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September.
Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia as the Black Stars seek to return to the continental competition after missing the previous edition.
