Bibiani Gold Stars Chief Executive Officer, Akwasi Adu, has thrown his support behind Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew, praising the forward’s commitment to the national team despite growing criticism following Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew has faced intense scrutiny from sections of Ghanaian football fans after the Black Stars exited the tournament at the Round of 32 stage following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
The experienced forward captained Ghana to the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since the 2010 edition, featuring in all four matches during the tournament.
However, his performances failed to satisfy many supporters, with some calling for him to be dropped from the national team.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Akwasi Adu defended the former Leicester City, Swansea City and Olympique Marseille attacker, insisting that Ayew’s years of dedicated service to Ghana should not be overlooked.
“Jordan Ayew has served Ghana with dedication and distinction. If he chooses to leave the national team, he deserves our respect and gratitude,” he said.
The Black Stars’ World Cup campaign ended at the Round of 32 stage after their defeat to Colombia, bringing to a close an encouraging tournament run that saw them reach the knockout stage for the first time in 16 years.
Attention now shifts to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September.
Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia as the four-time African champions seek to secure qualification for the continental tournament.
