Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has urged his players to sharpen their finishing despite lifting the 2026 Democracy Cup after beating rivals Hearts of Oak.
The Porcupine Warriors claimed their second Democracy Cup title with a 4-1 penalty shootout victory at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday after the two sides failed to find a breakthrough in regulation time.
While pleased with his team’s overall display, the South African coach said Kotoko failed to make the most of the chances they created and warned that greater efficiency in front of goal will be essential when the new season begins.
“I’m proud of the team, but I think we are still a work in progress,” Tinkler said.
“We had more than 20 box entries, but we didn’t capitalise on them, so we need to work on that.
“We are creating chances, but we need to put them in the back of the net,” he added.
Tinkler believes the victory offers encouragement ahead of the 2026/27 campaign but insisted there is still significant work to be done before his side reaches the standards he expects.
Kotoko will begin their Ghana Premier League season on 6 September with a home fixture against newly promoted Debibi United.
