The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has prevented a possible major power outage after firefighters from the Weija Fire Station swiftly contained an electrical fire involving an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) utility pole and cables at Tetegu SDA in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the GNFS, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, after the Service received a distress call reporting the fire.
Firefighters responded promptly and successfully brought the blaze under control before it spread to a nearby ECG transformer.
The swift intervention prevented what could have resulted in a widespread disruption of electricity supply in the area.
The Service said the fire damaged only the affected utility pole and electrical cables, with no injuries recorded.
The cause of the incident remains unknown, but investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the fire.
The GNFS commended the Weija Fire Station crew for their swift response, saying their timely intervention helped minimise damage and protected critical electricity infrastructure from further destruction.
