Acting General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has revealed the leader of the group which stormed Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Assembly in the Northern region is not a member of the party.

According to him, such elements take advantage of petty squabbles in the NPP to denigrate the name of the party which abides by the rule of law.

John Boadu’s comment comes after police at Savelugu-Nanton on Thursday June 15, 2017 clashed with some group purporting to be youth of the NPP over the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

The joint force of executives from Savelugu and Nanton – who are against the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu stormed the Assembly’s office complex on Thursday morning to prevent her from reporting to work but was stopped by the police.

The same group on Friday June 16, 2017 stopped a planned demonstration in solidarity with the embattled MCE, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu.

They have since vowed to kill anyone who steps out to demonstrate in support of the MCE.

But John Boadu on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday stated emphatically that majority of those who perpetrated the crime are not NPP members.

He explained that, while watching news about the incident on Television, he realized the leader of the group was from another party.

The NPP man who is also the National Organizer appealed to the media to be circumspect on the kind of people they interview on their platform when such incident occures.

This notwithstanding, John Boadu appealed for calm as they work to resolve the MMDCEs issues amicably.
