Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, says government’s war on illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as ‘Galamsey’ will not cost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections.
According to him, the government will play its part and not relent on efforts to clamp down on the menace despite the opposition.

“I know our war on illegal mining will step on toes. Some may be happy others may not but all this government is fighting for is the wellbeing of Ghanaians and so I’m not sure it will cost us in 2020“, he said.
Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng was speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show Dwaso Nsem Friday.

Many have suggested that the president’s war on galamsey could cost him the 2020 polls if he should contest as it happened to former President John Mahama in the 2016 election when he insisted he would not restore teacher trainee allowances even if it cost him the presidency.
But Professor Frimpong-Boateng is confident Nana Akufo-Addo’s anti-galamsey fight would not lead to his defeat in the next presidential polls should he decide to run.
