Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced government’s plans to increase the number of taxpayers to, at least, 16 million by end of 2020.

The target, he said, is expected to be achieved through the collation of various national identification cards to help capture people yet to be on the tax net.

“Currently, less than two million people are registered to pay taxes but by the end of this year, we will start converting all the national ID numbers into tax identification numbers and this is what digitisation is going to allow us to do,” he said.
