Singer Eazzy thinks becoming a female act in Ghana’s showbiz industry isn’t a joke.

She has cemented her fame for more than a decade in the country’s music space and in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, she said men easily get away with things that females would be bashed for.

Explaining herself, Eazzy born Mildred Ashong, bemoaned how females were easily criticised for ‘playful’ lyrics they put in their songs but men would be tagged creative should they do same.

According to her, she believes females in the industry tend to do more “quality music, are keen on choice of words and take time to composite their songs.

“It’s hard for us to get away with some words. For us females, you need people who love you for who you are. If a girl says ‘Obaa Gbemi’ it becomes an issue but guys get away with it. The music is commercial and both sexes can relate but women are told to remember their sex and think about the future.”

She explained that it takes “much higher skill” to dress, react to issues and blend with people if you are a female act.

Eazzy thinks it would be a conducive music industry if women are treated the same way male acts are ‘praised’ if Ghanaians would want to put Ghana’s music on the map.

“Most guys are booked and supported with airplays. How much are women paid for shows and how many times are they billed for shows?” she queried.
