The family of the policeman who was reportedly shot by his colleagues who mistook him for an armed robber is appealing to the state for compensation to cater for her children.

Lance Corporal Robert Ackah was escorting travelers from Tamale to the southern sector when the sad incident happened on the Buipe – Kintanpo road.

According to reports, while the late officer was pursuing the armed robbers, news went around about the robbery and officers from Brong Ahafo Region Command rushed to the scene.

They are said to have shot Lance Corporal Ackah whom they saw with an AK47 rifle thinking he was one of the robbers.

They later got to know that he was a police officer when they found his identification card.

But speaking on Adom News Monday, uncle of the deceased, Tufuhene Bentum said the police service has ignored the family.

He indicated that, it will be difficult supporting the children without government intervention.

Tufuhene Bentum bemoaned how a soldier who suffered a similar fate was given a state burial and his family properly compensated but they have been totally ignored.

“My nephew was shot in the line of duty just like late Major Mahama so the police service must come to our aid” he added.

Failure to heed to their call, Tufuhene Bentum said the family will invoke curses on Ghana Police Service.
