President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the 21st Century demands that every country must be prepared for the world of knowledge and application of technology to resolve social and economic problems.

He said nations that do not prepare for this century will shoot themselves in the foot.

According to him, Ghana cannot afford to lag in the global struggle for world relevance in the 21st Century.

Addressing a gathering of students and teachers of Nkawkaw Senior High School as part of his working visit to the Eastern Region, President Akufo-Addo said the introduction of the free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy is to prepare Ghana to become relevant in the global economy.

He said the lack of money should not be a barrier for education at this time of Ghana’s history.

President Akufo-Addo also pleaded with the students to take full advantage of the Free Senior High school education and acquire knowledge that will propel them to a higher level of life.

He said some prominent politicians, civil society groups and individuals kicked against the implementation of the free SHS but he remained determined, using the nation’s scares resources to develop its human resources.

He pleaded with the final year SHS students to learn well and pass the West Africa Senior School Certification Examination (WASSCE) to shame detractors of the policy since the success of the program partly depends on their success in the WASSCE.

He inspected a five-kilometre bituminous surfacing of Akwasiho-Twenedurase road and the construction of a ten-kilometre Nkawkaw town road project.

He also inspected the construction of a 41.4 km Kwabeng-Abomosu-Asuom road and the 24.8km Osiem-Begoro town roads for the first day of the tour.
