The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has described the recent devastating floods in Accra as a wake-up call for Ghanaians to move beyond rhetoric and take responsibility for the country’s development challenges.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Nukpenu said the heavy downpour and its destructive impact should serve as a turning point for the nation.

“This is the time to stop the lip service and irresponsibility. Enough of how we treat ourselves as a nation. This should tell all of us that enough is enough,” he stated.

Mr Nukpenu argued that the floods have exposed long-standing problems such as poor planning, indiscriminate construction on waterways, and weak enforcement of environmental regulations.

According to him, addressing these challenges requires collective action and a stronger commitment from both leaders and citizens to protect lives, property and the environment.

He called on both citizens and leaders to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps to prevent future disasters.

According to him, tackling the perennial flooding problem will require strict adherence to planning regulations, responsible waste disposal, and a stronger commitment to environmental protection.

His comments come as many parts of Accra continue to recover from Monday’s heavy rains, which caused widespread flooding, destroyed properties and disrupted daily activities across the capital.
