Ghana on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, observed its second National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving with a national Christian service held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
The event, themed “Reflect, Reset and Renewal for National Prosperity,” underscored the importance of national introspection, spiritual renewal and collective responsibility in advancing Ghana’s development.
The observance followed President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration last year, designating July 1—previously celebrated as Republic Day—as Ghana’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
Addressing the gathering, President Mahama stressed that Ghana’s transformation cannot be achieved through government policies and infrastructure projects alone.

He said although development programmes and investments in infrastructure remain essential, the nation’s future will ultimately be shaped by the daily choices, values and actions of its citizens.
According to the President, every Ghanaian has a role to play in building the prosperous nation the country aspires to become.
Delivering the sermon, Apostle Eric Nyamekye urged Ghanaians to stop placing the blame for corruption solely on politicians, insisting that citizens must equally take responsibility for the country’s governance and development.

He noted that meaningful national transformation requires the active participation of all citizens and cannot be left in the hands of political leaders alone.
The service brought together religious leaders, government officials, political figures and members of the diplomatic and security communities in a display of national unity and shared purpose.

Among those in attendance were Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Founder of Action Chapel International, Mrs. Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, President of Aglow International Ghana, and Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, alongside several other Christian leaders.
The event was also marked by moments of praise and worship led by celebrated gospel musicians Nacee, Diana Hamilton and Daughters of Glorious Jesus, whose ministrations added to the solemn and uplifting atmosphere.

President John Dramani Mahama attended the service together with First Lady Lordina Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, senior government officials, heads of the security services and other dignitaries.
