It has emerged that driver of Takoradi-bound bus involved in Tuesday’s accident at Dompoase near Komenda is still alive.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Foster Gyasi of the Cape Coast, Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) revealed this on Adom FMs morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Wednesday.

He stated that, the driver is responding to treatment and will soon be discharged.

“The driver of the red bus which was destroyed totally is still alive and receiving treatment. His injury is not all that serious and that is what is shocking” he said.

Thirty-five persons have so far been confirmed dead in the accident that occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday. The deceases include; twenty one (21) males, eleven (11) females and three (3) children.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the actual number of persons involved in the Dompoase-Komenda accident.

ASP Gyasi advised drivers to stay vigilant and avoid needless distractions when driving particularly in the night.

Background

The Dompoase-Komenda accident, which involved two 60-seater passenger buses travelling from opposite directions, has claimed the lives of thirty-five persons including a baby. 

The accident occurred around midnight on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. The VVIP bus – with registration number GR 5704-18 was said to be travelling from Takoradi to Accra and the other bus – with registration number GN 3780-10 was travelling from Accra.
