2015 best farmer, Dr Edward Asadu is calling for dialogue between Fulani herdsmen and crop farmers at Asante Akyem Agogo as part of efforts to solving the age-old Fulani menace.
The solution offered by the man who owns several acres of farms in the Agogo area follows clashes between Fulani herdsmen and a combined police-military team.
3 military men and a police officer were injured in the clashes.
One of the injured military officers has been treated and discharged while 2 of the military men have been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for further treatment.
Reacting to the story on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday, Dr Asadu said dialogue between the farmers and the Fulani herdsmen is the solution to the menace.
According to the owner of Asadu Waste, he came to the realization that dialogue is the solution to the problem after leading several unfruitful charges against the Fulani herdsmen.
“I used to personally lead people to chase the Fulani herdsmen out of town but I stopped that after I realized that they lacked knowledge in the cattle business…so I think we should sit down and dialogue with them…,” he said.
He further claimed that after coming to this realization, he arranged a meeting with the cattle owners and that led to building of peace between him and the herdsmen.
“After the meeting, I realized that the nomadic Fulani who are not Ghanaians are the ones who come during the harmattan cause the problem,” he said.
Dr Asadu also suggested that the land be shared amongst the herdsmen and the farmers.
“We have to sit and determine that the land is allocated to the farmers and herdsmen so that no one crosses each other.
“Let’s all discuss and agree on the boundary so that no one crosses each other’s path so that there will be peace…there is lot to benefit from one another…,” he suggested.
