The sudden demise of the Mankralo [caretaker chief] of Prampram in the Greater Accra region, Nene Atsure Benta III has been linked to chieftaincy dispute in the area.

District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ningo-Prampram, Jonathan Paa Nii Doku revealed that, factions in the area have been at loggerheads over who becomes chief of Prampram.

His comment comes after a faction to the Prampram stool accused the late Nene Atsure Benta of failing to facilitate the process to enstool a chief.

However, hours before the death of the Manklalo, a man who claims to be the stool father to the Mankralo, Nii Nartey IV, together with some elders of the Prampram Mankralo stool, held a press conference at Ashaiman Thursday where they leveled some allegations against the deceased.

According to Nii Nartey who addressed the media, the deceased, Nene Atsure Benta, for some time now had failed to perform the necessary rites and functions required of him as a Mankralo coupled with total disrespect towards him, Nii Nartey, as the stool father.

However,Nene Atsure Benta who had gone to the Dodowa House of Chiefs on the same matter was killed even before getting to Prampram to tell his side of the story.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday, the Ningo-Prampram DCE expressed shock at the incident.

He said he knew they were chieftaincy issues in the area but never thought it could led to the killing of the Mankralo for the area.

Jonathan Paa Nii Doku wondered why the deceased did not ask the Assembly for police protection before traveling to Dodowa knowing how volatile the situation was.

“I’m surprised Nene Atsure Benta traveled alone to Dodowa. I’m even told he was destooled so I’m wondering why people will kill him” the DCE bemoaned

This notwithstanding, Mr. Doku said the police have taken over the matter and would investigate to bring the perpetrators to book.

“It’s quite unfortunate that such a calm gentlemen has died this way but we are going to do everything within the law to bring the perpetrators to book”.

The Ningo-Prampram DCE said police has beefed up security in the area to avert any reversal attacks.
