The National Teaching Council (NTC) has announced the finalists for the Ghana Teacher Prize 2026, with experienced education administrator Daniel Payne earning a place among the final contenders in the Teacher in Administration and Leadership category.
The awards are being held under the theme, “Empowering Teachers, Architects of the Future,” and seek to recognise and celebrate outstanding professionals whose dedication continues to make a difference in Ghana’s education sector.
This year’s awards will honour deserving individuals across five major categories: Teaching, Teacher in Administration and Leadership, Non-Teaching, Best College Lecturer and Private School Teacher.
For Mr Payne, the nomination represents recognition of more than two decades of commitment to the teaching profession and educational administration.
Mr Payne is a licensed education professional with licence number PT/001447/2002 and currently serves as Head of the Human Resource Management Department at the Ghana Education Service in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.
He began his teaching career in 2002 before moving into administration in 2008, steadily building experience in educational leadership and human resource management.
His academic credentials further reflect his commitment to professional development. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Administration in Higher Education, a Master of Education in Educational Administration and a Bachelor of Education in Basic Education, all from the University of Cape Coast.
He also holds a Diploma in Basic Education and a Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’, giving him a strong academic and professional foundation in education.
According to his profile presented at the launch, Mr Payne is a dedicated education professional with strong interpersonal skills, qualities that have supported his work in both teaching and administration.
His journey from the classroom in 2002 to educational administration in 2008 and, subsequently, to his current leadership role with the Ghana Education Service has positioned him among the professionals being considered for national recognition under this year’s Teacher Prize.
His selection marks another significant milestone in his career as he joins other finalists competing for honours in the various categories.
The Ghana Teacher Prize 2026 awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in October, coinciding with the annual celebration of teachers and providing a platform to recognise educators and education professionals whose service continues to shape Ghana’s education system.
For Mr Payne, the journey to the national awards stage represents 24 years of service, professional development and dedication to Ghana’s education sector.
