Prophet Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, also known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, has been granted bail after appearing in court following his arrest on August 11, 2026 over alleged offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
The development follows his arrest by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in connection with a video in which he was allegedly seen making derogatory and offensive remarks about the Islamic prophet.
Daniel Adjei is also the prophet who was allegedly slapped by an Imam during a separate confrontation, an incident that drew attention on social media.
He appeared before court today, where he was granted bail with the assistance of NPP Member of Parliament Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
The case is being investigated by the authorities, with the circumstances surrounding the alleged comments and the confrontation forming part of the broader matter.
The Ghana Police Service has maintained that freedom of expression and religion must not be used to justify statements that encourage violence or threaten public peace.
The police have also warned religious leaders, preachers and social media commentators to exercise restraint in their public utterances, particularly on matters capable of triggering religious tension.
Further proceedings are expected as investigations continue.
