Former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has rejected allegations of wrongdoing levelled against him by Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson, in connection with the award of scholarships.
In a statement issued through his lawyers, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, Dr Agyemang described the narrative surrounding him as false and misleading and maintained that he performed his duties as Registrar with utmost diligence.
The lawyers said their client denies any wrongdoing and has fully cooperated with state security and investigative agencies looking into allegations of corruption surrounding the award of scholarships during the tenure of the previous administration.
According to the lawyers, the High Commissioner has acknowledged that investigations into the allegations are already underway.
They questioned the decision to resort to public commentary against Dr Agyemang while the appropriate investigative bodies are conducting their work.
The lawyers described the approach as “regrettable and unwarranted” and said Dr Agyemang has made himself available to the relevant agencies to ensure the allegations are thoroughly investigated and his name cleared.
They also rejected suggestions that Dr Agyemang has failed to cooperate with investigations, stressing that he remains committed to due process and the rule of law.
The legal team further described him as a law-abiding citizen who remains focused on faithfully discharging the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Abuakwa South.
Dr Agyemang, through his lawyers, expressed confidence that the ongoing investigations would establish the facts and ultimately vindicate him.
“He remains confident that in the fullness of time, the truth will prevail, and he will be vindicated,” the statement said.
