The integrity of the police has once again been called into question following an exposé by anti-graft body, Corruption Watch.
Corruption Watch’s undercover investigations led by Francisca Emefa Enchill revealed that, some police officers took money from families of suspects before releasing them on bail.

Reacting to the exposé on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday, Director of Fundraising at the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mr Michael Boadi said the police service now has integrity crisis.
The only way out, he suggested, is for an independent body to assume oversight responsibility over the professional conduct of the police.
“The police need an external independent body to investigate such unprofessional misconduct; it is the only way their transformation agenda will succeed,” he stated.

The anti-graft crusader underscored the need for lower rank police officers to be taken through serious training to equip them to discharge their duties effectively.
“Periodic ethical training should be added to police promotional examinations and their condition of service, it will help,” he added.

Mr Boadi said those police officers captured in the investigations should be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
