The Chief of Ahanta-Akatakyi in the Ahanta-West District, Nana Bozza IX has said he is prepared to lease over 100 acres of land to government for the construction of a new regional hospital to augment activities at the Effia-Nkwanta hospital which is in a deplorable state presently.

“The facilities there are appalling. I am ready to give the NPP government about 100 acres of land. A regional hospital of this nature will not need even 50 acres but I will give more than that so we can have a better hospital to treat sick people…” he said.

The Effia-Nkwanta hospital which was put up in 1938 according to the Chief Nana Bozza IX cannot cater for the numerous patients who come from both the upper and lower belt of the region seeking medical attention.

He couldn’t fathom why a two kilometre distance away from the main road could hinder such development from coming true.

Nana Bozza IX recounted how his  proposal was turned down by the regional health directorates who claimed land is far from the main road.

“I already had the opportunity to interact with the regional health personal about four years ago when they needed land to expand the hospital. I offered to give them 100 acres. I expected them to be ready for the land but I heard otherwise…”

“Why would anyone say the two and half Kilometre distance is far from the main road so the hospital can’t be built. I want them to go back and cite Korle BU and other developments. They were given off-roads. Maybe they don’t want to bring the hospital to Akatakyi. The land is always ready for the government…” he insisted.

Nana Bozza XI maintained that, having a regional hospital at Akatakyi is a must hence will save lots of lives.

“The absence of a regional hospital has caused the death of many children and women whose life could have been saved if the region had another hospital than Effia-Nkwanta Hospital” he observed.
