Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has expressed his disagreement with plans to keep Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, insisting that the Portuguese trainer’s tactical approach does not suit Ghana’s football philosophy.
Tagoe, who represented Ghana at the 2010 World Cup, believes extending Queiroz’s stay would not benefit the national team, arguing that the coach’s defensive approach does not align with Ghana’s identity.
“Keeping coach Carlos Queiroz is a waste of time. I am not okay with his tactics. Ghana football is not about defending,” he told Adom TV’s Sports Page.
“I don’t think he will take us far,” the former Hearts of Oak striker added.
Queiroz was appointed on a short-term contract following the dismissal of Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 edition.
The Black Stars, however, saw their campaign come to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Following Ghana’s elimination, the 73-year-old appeared to suggest that his time with the team had come to an end, but President John Dramani Mahama has called on the country to convince the former Real Madrid manager to continue in the role.
Speaking during an inspection of the Ho Sports Stadium, President Mahama praised the Black Stars’ World Cup showing and described their achievement of reaching the knockout stage as exceeding expectations.
The debate over Queiroz’s future comes as Ghana shifts attention towards the next major assignment, qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Gambia, and Somalia as they aim to secure a return to Africa’s biggest football tournament after missing out on the 2025 edition.
