The man who paraded himself as a lawyer and was arrested on the orders of Justice Alexander Graham inside the Techiman Circuit Court in the Bono East Region has spoken.

The suspect, Iddrisu Yahaya, after he was whisked away by the police on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 told Joy News that although he has not been called to the Ghanaian bar, he considered himself a lawyer.

According to him, he has been practicing as a lawyer in Ghana for close to two years, revealing he has represented clients in two cases.

He said the case in question for which he had been arrested would have been his third case in court.

Yahaya said he graduated from a private law school in September 2019.

“I am a lawyer from prominent chambers. I schooled at Maranatha University College which is based in London but has a branch here [in Ghana] and I graduated just last year so I have been in the profession for close to two years,” he said.

“I have represented two cases so far and this is my third case,” he explained.

Asked if he knew it was illegal to practice law when he has not called to the bar, he responded: “I am a lawyer and I am aware it is illegal but it is so”.

Iddrisu Yahaya was representing some four accused persons who were in court for robbery, kidnapping and murder when he was arrested.

He had collected a sum of GH¢25,000 from the four accused to represent them.

But luck eluded him as he was arrested in court.

The case has been under investigation by the police in Techiman.
