The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Fire Commander in the Western North Region, Divisional Officer One (DO I) Enock Tetteh, has died just days after raising concerns over the increasing number of fire outbreaks in the municipality.
DO I Tetteh passed away in the early hours of Tuesday after reportedly complaining of severe chest and back pains. He was pronounced dead at the Reed Danos Medical Centre.
The cause of his death is yet to be established.
The late fire officer had served as the Municipal Fire Commander in Bibiani for nearly four years.
Only days before his passing, he granted an interview to Adom News in which he disclosed that the municipality had recorded 50 fire outbreaks within the first half of the year.
The incidents, he said, included domestic, vehicular and mechanical fires, with the number exceeding figures recorded during the same period in previous years despite sustained public education campaigns.
During the interview, DO I Tetteh urged residents to observe fire safety measures, particularly those who use candles and other naked flames in their homes.
He advised the public to extinguish candles before going to bed and remain vigilant to prevent avoidable fire outbreaks.
His sudden death has come as a shock to colleagues, residents and members of the Ghana National Fire Service, where he was recognised for his commitment to fire prevention and public safety in the municipality.
