An aspiring flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alban Bagbin, believes it is not necessary for those vying for party posts to campaign in Senior High Schools (SHS).

Mr Bagbin said the students have no stake in the NDC presidential elections thus it will be imprudent to focus on them.

His comment follows the decision by former President John Mahama to campaign in SHS as part of his strategy of recapturing power in 2020.

He believes the students must be caught young and imbibed with the NDC’s ideologies to enable them to make informed choices in the 2020 general elections.

Mr Mahama has been condemned by the government for inciting the school children, the majority of whom are benefiting from the free SHS – an allegation he has denied.

But Alban Bagbin on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Friday said campaigning to SHS students is only necessary during presidential elections.

He explained that, in an internal contest like flagbearership, the stakeholders are the delegates who are kingmakers in the NDC.

The Member of Parliament for Nadoli West constituency said the only student group he will engage with is the Tertiary Education Institutions Network of NDC (TEIN) who are also delegates.

Alban Bagbin who is also the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament is confident of emerging flagbearer of the NDC.
