The University Teachers Association (UTAG) has questioned government’s seeming support for students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) against management on the issue of converting two male halls of residence into a mixed one.

National President of the Association, Dr Eric Opoku said Unity and Katanga halls were not built to be male halls thus KNUST authorities can make changes.

He recalled how Republic Hall in 1980 was converted into a mixed hall just to increase female intake to buttress his point.

“What is special about Katanga, what is special about Unity hall that if you send females there you will be undermining the traditions of these halls? I can think far” he fumed on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday.

Dr Eric Opoku maintained that management of the university, took the decision “in line with the university’s policy of periodic review of Residential Accommodation for students”.
